      <image:title>Home - About Me…</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m Alexandra Casamassima (a mouthful, I know), a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. More specifically, I help people create positive change in their lives when they are struggling. I have expertise in working with women. This includes college students or millennials going through a “quarter life crisis,” the pregnancy and postpartum period, and beyond. I support women in exploring their history and revealing patterns that may be impacting their emotions or relationships, or just help tackle a difficult season of life. I am not your typical therapist, and we will not be interpreting dreams from a couch. Therapy should not be an awkward and stale experience. Expect therapy with me to be a compassionate and safe space to process what you’re going through. However, I am not a sit and nod therapist. I will be real. I will challenge you in the areas I think we need to re-evaluate. I will use humor. I might curse here and there. While I have extensive education and training that has prepared me for this role, my experience has mostly taught me that YOU are the expert of your life. You have all the strengths, capabilities, and life experiences you need to get you where you want to go. My skills involve utilizing those strengths, giving you the tools to cope with what you’re struggling with, and elicit the change you want to see. I do not have a magic wand (otherwise my rates would be much higher), but if you put in the work during the therapy process, transformation is possible. If you’re reading this, chances are you are suffering in some way. Maybe you’re experiencing anxiety, maybe you’re overwhelmed with being a mom, or maybe you know you’re just not getting the most out of life. Please reach out if you’d like to take the first step to make positive change.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Therapy for Moms - Pregnancy and Postpartum</image:title>
<image:caption>Adjustment to pregnancy or bringing home a new baby can be physically and emotionally exhausting, even when everything goes as planned. Almost everyone feels some level of anxiety or emotional instability when bringing a newborn home. You Might Have a Postpartum Mood or Anxiety Disorder If Feeling sad, hopeless, or overwhelmed Feeling guilty or shameful about being depressed Crying a lot Having little energy, motivation, or difficulty sleeping (even when baby is sleeping) Irregular Appetite Feeling alone or withdrawing from support system Feeling like you cannot care for the baby, or that you are “not a good mom” Having headaches, stomachaches, or chest pains/palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness Chronic worry or racing thoughts about the wellbeing of the baby Intrusive, unwanted thoughts Overall - FEELING LIKE THIS IS NOT HOW IT SHOULD BE. Pregnancy and early motherhood is a HUGE adjustment period. It is very common to have these feelings, and to have guilt about the thoughts and emotions you are experiencing (especially if you struggled with infertility). However, please don’t wait to address these concerns. Treatment is available, and effective. I can help support you by: Providing a judgment-free space that helps you sort through your feelings, and dispel the “myths of motherhood” that may contribute to your feelings Develop a treatment plan that includes coping skills, self care actions, and ways to increase support Provide resources to support your motherhood struggles, as well as overall well-being Building confidence in your parenting skills</image:caption>

<image:title>Therapy for Moms - Beyond the Baby Stage</image:title>
<image:caption>You’ve made it through the baby stage, and you’ve “settled into motherhood.” This is a uniquely complicated time for many women. Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom, a working mom, or an empty-nester (or some combination of the three!), balancing parenting, relationships, and fulfillment is a complicated struggle. If you’re a stay at home mom, you may find yourself channeling your inner Ariel, wanting to be “where the people are” and experience life as an adult again. Without work or sufficient social time, it’s easy to lose your sense of self, purpose, identity. You crave adult connection, but you’re completely over stimulated with touch and neediness. You’re grateful to spend this time with your children, yet resentful of being responsible for the bulk of parenting and household responsibilities. Even though you’re overwhelmed with the “mental load of motherhood,” your brain wants to be used in the intellectual way it was before. If you’re a working mom, you’re likely frustrated that “peak career” time correlates with “peak parenting” time. Maybe you feel like neither work nor the kids are getting 100% of you. Even though you and your partner are working, it might feel like you’re still solely responsible for “the mental load of motherhood.” Either way, this season of life is CHALLENGING. Relationships suffer, self esteem and identity can suffer, and overall feelings of “blah” can ensue. Maybe significant feelings of anxiety and depression are beginning to creep in (or have been around for a while…). I can help you feel grounded and prioritize yourself so that your cup is full enough to care for the others in your life, while feeling fulfilled and less apathetic or overwhelmed.</image:caption>

<image:title>Therapy for College Students - College During Covid</image:title>
<image:caption>On top of all the other difficulties college can bring… now you’re experiencing it during a global pandemic. This is not how you imagined college would be. If you’re a freshman, you likely missed out on important Senior activities as a High-Schooler. The way you imagined moving in, attending parties, going to sporting events, becoming involved in clubs, and gathering with your new classmates has been robbed from you. College students are also faced with constant reminders of COVID-19, as you are likely being tested weekly, cannot eat in the cafeteria, need to complete your coursework online, and are unable to socialize with friends in their rooms. You finally have the freedom college offers young adults, and now your life is more limited than ever. Perhaps your studies, internships, or clinical hours have been impacted by COVID restrictions as well. Not how you pictured the beginning of your adult life? If this sounds familiar, book an appointment now.</image:caption>

You can choose to continue going about life just as you were and hope things will eventually change for the better on their own, or you can pause and see where you can make an hour of time for yourself and start to actively create the change you want.</image:caption>
